'House of Cards' Netflix Season 3 Release Date, Spoiler News, Cast Updates & Reveals (VIDEO)
Netflix hit series "House of Cards" Season 3 is currently filming and fans are looking for any details they can find about the upcoming season for the political thriller series.
Only a small amount of filming for the show is actually done in Washington D.C., as most of the shooting is done in Maryland. Season 3 of "House of Cards" will again film in Maryland. Initially, the filming of the third season of the Netflix series was haulted with troubles over the past few weeks as the producers weren't getting permission from the State of Maryland, but the issue was eventually resolved on April 25.
"House of Cards" Season 3 is expected to be 13 episodes and release to Netflix in February of 2015.
Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) has become the President of the United States and is now the most powerful man in the world. Using tools like lies, manipulation, and murder to get what he has always wanted, viewers are asking one question: will season 3 finally show his downfall?
Show creator Beau Willimon spoke with the New York Times' and hesitantly revealed some spoilers. He said their would be more philosophical turns the show might take in the next season, particularly dealing with Frank Underwood's (Kevin Spacey) jourey to the top. He hinted that Underwood might struggle to find purpose in his life as he reaches his goal of presidency. "What do you do when you're on top of it?" Willimon said. "Who are you? You can no longer say, 'I'm the guy trying to reach the summit. Now, it had to have meaning. It used to be that the meaning was getting there."
At the end of the final season of "House of Cards" (British version, Francis Urquhart (Spacey's counterpart) is killed by his own wife Elizabeth, assassinated by a sniper she hired herself. Could this happen to President Underwood as well?
Bustle has a theory sharing: "She'd rather her husband be killed than see him disgraced. That's pretty cold. But we already know that Claire Underwood has ice flowing through her veins, so it's easy to imagine her arriving at a similar solution."
Frank's advisor Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly) was brutally hit by a rock to the head in Season 2, so we've yet to see what's next for him. Kelly shared in an interview about his future: "I don't know -- they haven't officially said. And with television contracts, as an actor, when you sign those contracts you sign for a long time. So technically they still own me, but I don't know yet."
Kelly wants to know what happens to Doug, sharing, "I wanna know! You go to the writers' room and there's black tarps over everything. You don't get to know anything."
Willimon also shared about Robin Wright, who plays Claire Underwood on the Netflix series and also directed her first episode in Season 2. "She's a natural. She has been in the business for many years so she knows her way around a set. She has an intuitive understanding of the craft; she has exquisite taste; she has great insight into story," he said. "Her thoughts about scripts, whether it's her character or someone else's, always make the script better. She is a born leader."
He joked about Wright only wanting to direct now. "She's a really wonderful director and I can't wait to see her direct more," he said. "She threatens that all she wants to do now is direct instead of act. But I know that she can do both at the same time. That episode was a clear example."
"House of Cards" is Netflix's first original series and received some nice validation with it's recent Emmy nomination for "Outstanding Drama Series". This was the first time a program from only a digital platform received a high-profile Emmy nomination.
