Damara Melissa Reveals How Her New EP "Beginnings" Was Birthed
Canadian singer and songwriter Damara Melissa will be releasing her brand new EP Beginnings on February 25. Featuring four new songs, Melissa puts her soulful voice mixed on these faith-filled pop-driven songs that are bound to be classics in no time.
These four songs are particularly personal to Melissa. She writes, "More than just some songs I've written, the Beginnings EP shares my journey through 2020. Not just the brokenness experienced and the blows felt - but the healing that came through God's constant speaking into every circumstance. I want others' faith to be strengthened. I want others to know that they can overcome their trials, and deepest fears. That with God - all things are possible."
Melissa reveals how a personal loss inspired the new songs. "In 2006, after my dad passed away, I started writing. But it wasn't until 2012 when a friend taught me to play chords on the piano, that my songwriting really took off.Took off, in private that is. Lol."
She continues, "I shared periodically, but for the most part - my songs were my own. Until 2020. The world ground to a halt and in the quiet, God was speaking. He was urging me to begin using my songwriting for His kingdom. And with so many other activities taken away, I finally felt I didn't have a choice."
Melissa started writing songs at 19, after losing her father. Through music she found an outlet for expression and has never looked back. While desiring to share her music for years, 2020 finally gave her the push she needed to overcome her fears and step out in faith. Damara is now working on her first ever EP after successfully running a kickstarter campaign for the album. The first song on the EP "BRAVE" is now available on all music platforms!
Damara hopes to both encourage fellow Christians, and bring the message of hope in the gospel to the world through her music.
