Mark Lowry's Dad Passes Away
Charles Gilman Lowry, father of Mark Lowry, passed away on May 18, 2022. He was 90. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Beverly Davis Lowry.
Born in Houston, TX, April 25, 1932, he was the son of the late George Lowry and Myrtie Evans Lowry. Charles began his working career as a geologist for Humble Oil Co., now Exxon in Houston. He later went to law school and began practicing law at the age of 27. He and his wife moved to Lynchburg in 1979 where they opened the first Mexican restaurant in Lynchburg. A year later he became in-house counsel for the Old Time Gospel Hour Ministry and the Moral Majority and was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Will Carter and one brother George Eugene Lowry.
He is survived by two sons, Charles Michael "Mike" Lowry and his wife Natashia of Forest and Mark Alan Lowry of Houston, TX; one daughter, Melissa L. Carter of Forest and her fiancé Steve Kramer; two brothers, Glen Lowry (Joyce) and Rev. Kenneth Lowry (Deany); two sisters, Elaine McMullen and Linda Kleeman (Louis) and six grandchildren Christopher Lowry, Courtney L. Tate and her husband Josh, Chad Lowry, Chelsea L. Scheetz and her husband Nick, Zac Carter and his wife Lilly and Katelyn Carter; one great grandson, Sullivan Carter; sister in law, Patricia Lowry; and a number of nieces and nephews and other extended family.
A graveside service celebrating Charles life and faith will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Kenneth Lowry officiating.
