Matthew West Shares the Inspiration Behind "How Good God Is"
Reigning ASCAP Christian Songwriter of the Year, Matthew West drops his latest single and video today. "How Good God Is" was written by West with AJ Pruis. The accompanying feel-good music video, directed by Sean Hagwell, was shot in Nashville, TN and features a jubilant children's choir worshiping the lesson learned alongside West. "How Good Of God" is available now.
West recalls how this song was birthed. "One day during the height of the pandemic my wife noticed a piece of paper on the nightstand next to my daughter's bed. She had written a list of everything that was going wrong in our world at the time. My wife showed the list to me and it broke our hearts to think that our little girl is going to bed with so much bad news on her mind.
"So, the next day we decided we would sit down together as a family and make a different kind of list. We took turns talking about something good in our lives, something we are thankful for, something that brings us joy. The craziest thing happened! That list we made was much longer than the list of troubles. That experience inspired me to sit down and write 'How Good of God'."
Commenting on the video, West has this to say, "I love the music video for `How Good of God' so much! We put a message on social media and a bunch of families showed up with their kids to be the stars of this video. I wanted the video to be full of life. I had a vision of what vacation Bible school was like when I was a kid. I had such a blast hanging out and teaching these kids the songs, and then we performed for the parents like a school recital. To me, it's such a special thing to see all these kids singing about the goodness of God."
On August 21, West will bring his headlining show - "A Night of Worship at the Mother Church with Matthew West and Friends" to the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. Tickets are on sale here.
