Michael W. Smith Reveals How Family Pictures Inspired His New Christmas EP
Multi-Platinum artist, best-selling author and acclaimed actor Michael W. Smith will return on October 21 with Christmas At Home. This heartfelt Christmas EP was inspired by thoughts of Christmases past and future. "Christmas at Home" features 6 brand new Christmas standards that will awaken the listener's Christmas memories and remind them why we celebrate this most beautiful of seasons.
Smith announces, "Well, I have something to share... And some music that might be soothing and comforting in these troubling times. I've kept quiet about this... For many reasons, which I will explain hopefully tomorrow. But I've been making some music, and you know some of my favorite music to make is... Christmas music. So we have something special coming your way... October 21. I cannot wait for you to hear. And let me tell you this, it is a family affair on just about every level. You'll be pleasantly surprised. It was such a joy to make."
The EP started with the song "Freeze The Frame," written by Michael W. and Tony Wood. The song was inspired when Smith was painting pictures of family moments around the holidays. Looking at the pictures, he wished everything would just slow down so he could be enjoyed just a bit longer. Once that song was written, the others just flowed out of Michael and inspired him to bring his kids and, at the time, 16 grandchildren (recently grown to 17 with the addition of Owen in September 2022).
As the final project came together five of the six songs on the EP ended up featuring multiple collaborations with his children. We are excited for you to hear it. This will be Smith's 5th career Christmas release!
