Exclusive Song Premiere: Lauren Talley's "In the Room"
This Is For You is Lauren Talley's first collection in three years, and the first since The Talleys, the family trio in which she'd sung for more than 20 years, elected to retire from touring in 2020. From the opening line of the title track (and next radio single) to the last notes of the restrained, yet deeply emotional "Lord's Prayer," This Is For You is a finely crafted yet revelatory exploration of the wellsprings of faith through music.
One of the new album's highlights is the song "In The Room." The song, which is about how God is always with us through the Holy Spirit, is particularly personal to Talley.
Talley talks about the song and how it came about, "`In The Room' is a story of how God shows up wherever we are, even in our darkest moments. I brought the idea to co-writers Michael Farren and Kenna Turner West with a few stories from my own life of how I knew God had been in the room with me in some of my toughest times.
"The second verse tells the story of my 10-year-old stepson's battle with a brain tumor and how our family felt the presence of the Lord with us in his hospital room. Our boy is doing very well now, and God was present every step of the way. Hopefully this song will encourage others that they're never alone in their suffering, never without hope, never without help....He's right there in the room."
Talley hopes this new song as well as the entire new album will speak to her listeners. "I hope the listeners will feel like we've got something in common, that a friend is singing to them. There's so much of my life in these lyrics; I hope folks will know that we're all walking through this life and learning together. I hope they'll feel the joy in "How I Got Over," "Shut Him Up" and "That's What I Love About Him." I hope they'll feel some companionship in knowing He's walked right "Where You've Walked." I hope they'll know that not only is this record for them, but Jesus gave Himself...for them."
