'Godzilla 2′ Revealed at 2014 Comic-Con with Three New Monsters Unveiled
2014 Comic-Con convention in San Diego has revealed tons of news for fans about their favorite film and television shows.
Legendary pictures didn't want to disappoint and they didn't by dropping the big news that they will be making a sequel to this summer's hit movie Godzilla.
The director Gareth Edwards sent a video message to be played at their panel since he is currently working on Star Wars: Episode VII. In the message he thanked fans for seeing Godzilla and showing their support over the past two years. They had also first broke the news of Godzilla at Comic-Con in 2012.
Edwards spoke excitedly about the upcoming movie sharing, "I'm very much looking forward to directing that film."
Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull also introduced concept footage for the second movie, which teased three new monsters to appear in the sequel: Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah.
No release date has been announced for Godzilla 2 but it is expected in 2017 or later.
Godzilla has been a huge hit at the box office bringing in $491.3 million worldwide since May. The film starred Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, David Strathairn, and Bryan Cranston. . The success of the movie helped Edwards landing work with the new "Star Wars" film that will be released in 2016.
The Godzilla film was set in the present day, fifteen years after the unearthing of two chrysalises in a mine in the Phillipines. From the pods come two giant radiation-eating creatures, known as "MUTOs", which cause great damage in Japan, Hawaii and the western United States. Their awakening also stirs a much larger, destructive, ancient alpha predator known as "Godzilla", who's existence has been kept secret by the U.S. government since 1954.
