Ke'Erron Tells of God’s Faithfulness in the Midst of Fighting Incurable Diseases
Houston, Texas-based artist Ke'Erron releases his awaited Integrity Music debut album, "Anything Can Happen (Live)." Recorded live in his hometown, the 10-song record is filled with grateful praise. The essence of "Anything Can Happen" is even more impactful when one gets to know Ke'Erron and his story. Listen to the album HERE.
A few years back, the Trinidad and Tobago-born artist was diagnosed with two incurable diseases, yet he has been enduring his health hardships with the hope of Christ and a greater perspective of his purpose. The album's title track was written between Ke'Erron's living room and the hospital, carrying the central message that God is still a miracle worker.
With "Anything Can Happen," Ke'Erron created an album to raise people's faith and share excitement in knowing God is working in our day. The project features various artists (Leeland, Mayra Alvarez, and Evan Craft) and is sonically expansive and joyful, blending some CCM, gospel, and pop.
Q: Ke'Erron, thank you for doing this interview with us. Please tell us briefly about your background and how you became a worship leader.
I'm honored for the opportunity to share in conversation with you! I am a Trinidadian American and I got the privilege to be raised in both Trinidad and America. While in Trinidad, my great grandmother raised my sister and I in Catholicism. We would go to church faithfully and learned to pray often. At the age of 8, my sister and I came to the States and begun serving at Storefront Pentecostal church in Baytown, Texas and by 11 years old, I was leading worship and playing drums.
Q: How did you get to work with Integrity Music?
I had been running independent for a bit! At the top of 2022, my friend Leeland invited me and some of our incredibly talented and anointed friends from Houston to sing BGVs on his latest record "City of God." During this time, I too was in the process of writing my own record, "Anything Can Happen," and had been praying about how to navigate that process and what the next steps were. I was then introduced to some of the amazing A&R people at Integrity during Leeland's album recording and truly fell in love with the team. Around that time, my friend Evan Craft had recently introduced me to his manager and they both were a huge reason why I continued to move forward with the record and was open to conversation. This led to great moments with the team and as of Aug 2023, we signed an artist deal and today are having a blast!
Q: I have read that you suffered from two incurable diseases. What happened there?
I played basketball and football in high school and in college. I remember playing about six days a week and about six hours a day. I love sports haha. One day after basketball, I started experiencing stomach pains and really just thought it was a stomach bug and kept it moving. After about a month of symptoms and me losing about 40lbs, I knew this wasn't normal and that I would need to be seen by a specialist. Shortly after, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and an auto immune disorder. I didn't have insurance at the time so the hunt for proper medication to ease symptoms didn't begin until about a year after. As a result of UC I developed primary sclerosing cholangitis which in 2020 developed into stage four liver cirrhosis.
Q: What happened after that? Were you healed?
After seven years of battling this disease, we have seen significant changes in the right direction concerning both conditions. I like to call it a miracle in the making :) While I still experience symptoms from time to time, we are currently seeing things clear up where they shouldn't be. I thank God. Although I haven't seen complete healing yet, I'm falling in love with the healer even more, now.
Q: Some of your new songs were written when you were sick. How has this time of suffering impacted your songwriting and view of worship?
I've learned that God's faithfulness doesn't just mean I get what "I want" but he always shows up as who we need. Through this entire journey, I've experienced his nearness, his compassion, his kindness and his friendship. I began writing songs from this place - songs of his faithfulness and of hope that I've gotten to experience from mountain top moments to really difficult valleys. He's never left. This has changed the way I view worship and writing, allowing me to lead and create from a place of "knowing him" even in unknown waters. He's proven who he is time and time again and that has anchored me in my faith today.
Q: How do you think your new songs will minister to those who are sick? What do you have to say to those of our readers who are also suffering?
My heart is that those who hear these songs are reminded that you ARE NOT your sickness or the thing you're walking through. For those suffering, I'm reminded of the scripture: "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but I've never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging for bread" Psalm 37:25. He won't leave you where you are and he is with and for you.
As I'm battling a chronic illness, I've learned that praise is a weapon that invites God into my situation. I'm learning that God may not change the situation right away but he'll change you! He'll give you peace that you can't comprehend. He will be your fourth man in the fire and the one the deliver you out of the lion's den. He's a faithful friend.
Q: What are you most excited about your new album?
For people to hear these songs and find hope in Jesus! I want listeners to think deeply and see God rightly. I pray songs give language to hearts and what people are processing in this season of their lives as they have and are in my own life.
