DWAYNE JOHNSON’S HERCULES: Why 90’s Hercules Kevin Sorbo Isn’t Happy About It
Former Hercules star Kevin Sorbo wanted to be in the new Dwayne Johnson-headlined Hercules movie. In fact, he asked to be included in it in a cameo role. He was denied. He is not too pleased at the snub. He told Dish Nation, "We were sort of taken aback they wouldn't let me in that movie. I didn't do a cameo. I think it's kinda stupid, really. I'm still on all over America, on Netflix, on Hub, on Encore. I'm still in, like, 50 countries around the world. It was the most-watched show in the world in the '90s, passing Baywatch. To not me put on in a cameo, it's taking the business out of show business, and it's just kinda stupid. We approached the director. I don't know what his reasons are- I don't know if it's political, or it's ego, or what it is. But to not put me in just for a stupid little cameo, the audience would've loved it. They would've loved it."
Sorbos played "Hercules" in the Hercules: The Legendary Journeys TV series which ran from January 16, 1995 to November 22, 1999. His "Hercules" TV show was one of the highest rated and most successful syndicated TV shows at the time, spawning action figures and other memorabilia products and even a popular spinoff TV series - Xena: Warrior Princess. DVDs of the show have been released and re-released. No wonder, Sorbos is upset. He is arguably still the most well-known Hercules.
Be that as it may be, Dwayne Johnson's Hercules didn't do too bad at the tills either. It grossed $11 million on its opening day and $29 million on its opening weekend, beating Dawn of the Planet of the Apes at the box office.
