'Sharknado 3' Movie Announces Release Date for 2015 Keeping Syfy Hit Alive
The Sharknado train appears to keep rolling. After a successful Sharknado 2: The Second One earned huge ratings on Syfy, they announced that they are doing 'One Day Only' showing in select theaters on August 21st so fans can experience the movie on the big screen.
Now, they have revealed that the third movie in the budding franchise, Sharknado 3 will be shot and released by July 2015.
Here is the official press release:
"Led by Sharknado 2: The Second One, Syfy's Sharknado Week (July 28-August 3), soared 80 percent among Adults 18-49, 74 percent in Adults 25-54 and 73 percent among total viewers (L+SD), compared to summer to date (May 26-July 27).
The reach for the eight Sharknado franchise (Sharknado and Sharknado 2: The Second One) airings hit 18.2 million total viewers, with the reach for the entire week of shark-infested programming cuming at 25.8 million P2+.
Following Sharknado 2: The Second One's record-setting 3.9 million total viewers premiere on Wednesday, July 30 at 9PM (ET/PT), the pop culture sensation's repeats devoured 1.8 million victims on July 30 at 11PM, 2.3 million on Saturday, August 2 at 7PM and 1.5 million on Sunday, August 3 at 9PM.
Roger Corman's Sharktopus vs Pteracuda, featuring a cameo by Conan O'Brien, premiered on Saturday, August 2 at 9PM with 2.0 million total viewers, 760K Adults 18-49 and 831K Adults 25-54.
For the week, Syfy was the #3 ranked prime cable entertainment network among Adults 18-49 (665K), #4 among Adults 25-54 (739K) and #5 among total viewers (1.7 million).
Sharknado 2: The Second One will encore next Wednesday, August 13 at 9PM, with Sharknado 1 kicking off the night at 7PM.
And yes, Sharknado 3 will hit land next July 2015!"
The original Sharknado movie was released July 11th, 2013 starring Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, John Heard, Cassie Scerbo, Jaason Simmons, Alex Arleo, Neil H. Berkow, Heather Khan. The film was directed by Anthony C. Ferrante.
The sequel Sharknado 2: The Second One was released July 30th, 2014 starring Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, Vivica A. Fox, Mark McGrath, Kari Wuhrer, Courtney Baxter, Dante Palminteri, D.C. Douglas. Anthony C. Ferrante was again at the helm to direct.
