Hazel's Heart, a powerful new historical drama based on a true story, is introducing audiences to Hazel Miner, a little-known American heroine whose extraordinary courage and faith saved the lives of her younger siblings during a devastating North Dakota blizzard in 1920.
Set against the unforgiving landscape of rural America, Hazel's Heart recounts the harrowing events of March 1920, when Hazel Miner and her two siblings were stranded in whiteout conditions for more than 25 hours. Faced with impossible circumstances, Hazel made a selfless decision that ultimately cost her life but ensured the survival of those she loved. Her story, long remembered locally but largely unknown nationally, now finds new life on screen.
The film stars and is executive produced by Stelio Savante, who portrays Hazel's father, William Miner. Savante is widely recognized by faith-based audiences for his role as Moses in The Chosen. He describes Hazel's Heart as a story of quiet heroism grounded in authentic faith rather than overt sermonizing.
"This is not about preaching," Savante says. "It's about telling the truth of a young girl whose faith shaped her courage and whose love defined her legacy."
Directed by Daniel Bielinski, the film balances historical realism with emotional depth, emphasizing themes of sacrifice, family, resilience, and moral clarity. Distributed by Samuel Goldwyn Films, Hazel's Heart was crafted with broad crossover appeal, aiming to resonate with audiences beyond traditional faith-based markets.
In North Dakota, Hazel Miner's story has been honored for generations through local history, schools, and memorials. With Hazel's Heart, filmmakers hope to bring her legacy to a national and global audience, reminding viewers that true heroism is often found not on battlefields, but in acts of self-giving love.
