'I was on Brink of Death,' Says Jelly Roll on 200-Pound Weight Loss

Jelly Roll is continuing to speak candidly about the personal discipline and lifestyle changes that helped him lose more than 200 pounds, describing the journey as both physical and deeply internal.

In a January 20 interview with E! News, the 41-year-old country and hip-hop artist said the turning point came when he confronted his long-standing addiction to food. The Grammy-nominated singer explained that breaking unhealthy patterns was essential to reclaiming his health.

"I was on the brink of death," the 'Hard Fought Hallelujah' singer shared, noting that his struggle with food mirrored other addictions he has faced throughout his life. He added that educating himself and rebuilding his relationship with food became a major focus early in his transformation.

Alongside dietary changes, the "Son of a Sinner" singer credited consistent daily cardio as a cornerstone of his progress. He said running has become a form of healing, explaining that he runs every day, even if it is a slow, short recovery jog.

While the artist expressed no criticism toward those who use GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic, he clarified that medication was not responsible for his dramatic results. According to Men's Health, Jelly Roll used weight loss medication briefly for about two weeks at the beginning of his journey before discontinuing it.

Five years ago, Jelly Roll said he weighed more than 520 pounds, the maximum reading his scale could register. He ended 2025 at approximately 265 pounds.

Beyond physical health, the "Need a Favor" singer has often pointed to faith as a grounding force in his life. His music frequently reflects themes of redemption, grace, and spiritual reflection, most notably in songs like "Save Me," where he openly references God and personal transformation. Raised in a Christian environment, the artist has said his faith continues to shape his perspective as he moves forward in both life and music.
