The Incredibles 2 News: Sequel under Development
Last March 18, 2014, during the Disney investor's meeting, Disney CEOt Bob Iger confirmed that The Incredible 2 is currently in the works.
Brad Bird, director of The Incredibles, is finally working on the sequel's script. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last year, writer/director Brad Bird expressed interest of a sequel saying, " I have many, many elements that I think would work really well in another [Incredibles] film, and if I can get 'em to click together, I would probably wanna do that."
It seems those ideas have clicked together and he is currently working on the sequel's script. It has not yet been confirmed though if he will return to direct the sequel. Also, Bird is working on his new science fiction adventure film, Tomorrowland, starring George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Tim Mcgraw, and Judy Greer.
With the success of Disney's Frozen last year, it's no surprise that they thought of revisiting their film properties and from there, assess the potential of a possible sequel. The 2004 hit, The Incredibles, focused on former superheroes who have to deal with living normal lives after having them banned from performing their duties until the characters of Mr. Incredible and the rest of his super-powered family faces a threat that could essentially bring chaos to the innocent citizens. The premise of The Incredibles 2 has not yet been announced, but the only confirmed information floating around the internet is the return of the character Frozone/Lucius Best (voice by Samuel L. Jackson) whose powers are the ability to freeze water and moisture in the air. In an interview conducted by Digital Spy, Samuel L. Jackson revealed that the idea of him coming back is in the works saying, "Every time I run into Brad [Bird, writer] he always tells me Frozone is part of what's going on [in the sequel], so I have to believe that." The current rumor spreading on the internet speculates that the character of Frozone will be the villain of the sequel. No release date for The Incredibles 2 has been given but the director of the 3D production team, Josh Hollander, hinted that its release could be sooner than we think because of the advancement of the technology involved in making the sequel in retrospect to the technology they used back in 2004. At the 3D Creative Summit in London last March 12 and 13, Hollander explained by saying, "Right now we're working on The Incredibles, which is a lot of fun in 3D. I'm not sure what the release strategy for it will be. It's been an interesting challenge to work on technology because - while the film was released 10 years ago - the technology is even older as it took four years to make." The Incredibles 2 is not the only Disney property to have a sequel in the works. Sequels to Finding Nemo, Cars 2, and Frozen are also under development. With these sequels in the works, Pixar President Ed Catmull in an interview with Buzz Feed, reassured audiences last year that the animation studio will also work on original stories and ideas with the release of the films Inside Out on June 9, 2015 and The Good Dinosaur on November 25, 2015.
