A group of 41 church members from Calvary Chapel Summerville has safely returned to the United States after becoming stranded in Israel during escalating conflict in the region.
The group had traveled to Israel as part of a church pilgrimage to visit biblical sites across the country. However, their trip took an unexpected turn when rising tensions and military activity disrupted travel and created uncertainty for visitors attempting to leave the country.
According to church leaders, the group found themselves unable to depart as originally scheduled after flights were disrupted due to the security situation. The escalating hostilities prompted concern among family members back home as well as church leaders working to secure a safe path out of the region.
Assistant Pastor Charles Timmerman said the church community began coordinating with contacts and travel officials to determine the safest way for the group to return home.
Eventually, arrangements were made for the travelers to leave Israel by crossing into neighboring Jordan by land before securing a flight back to the United States.
The journey required careful planning and coordination as the group navigated heightened security conditions and changing travel restrictions. Once across the border, the church members were able to secure transportation and begin their trip home.
Church leaders expressed deep gratitude for the many people who prayed for the group's safety during the ordeal.
"Our faith in God is the most important thing in our lives," Timmerman said after the group returned safely. He noted that members of the congregation and supporters across the country had been praying throughout the situation.
The trip had originally been planned as a spiritual pilgrimage, giving church members the opportunity to walk through locations connected to the biblical narrative and deepen their faith through firsthand experiences in the land of the Bible.
Despite the unexpected disruption, church leaders said the experience ultimately strengthened the group's faith and reminded them of the importance of trusting God even in uncertain circumstances.
The safe return of the 41 travelers brought relief to families and church members in South Carolina who had been closely following updates during the unfolding crisis.
Faith-based tours to Israel remain popular among Christian churches around the world, allowing believers to visit historic sites such as Jerusalem, the Sea of Galilee, and other locations tied to biblical history. However, regional tensions can occasionally affect travel plans, requiring groups to adapt quickly when security concerns arise.
For the members of Calvary Chapel Summerville, the journey ultimately ended with gratitude and thanksgiving as all 41 travelers returned home safely.
