It has been revealed by the Pacific Rim film director Guillermo Del Toro that he and the writer of the movie, Zak Penn, have a plan to sequel the 2013 robot action film. Del Toro also stated that Travis Beacham was involved in the writing of 'Hieroglyph' by Fox Entertainment.

During an interview with Buzzfeed, the director of 'Pacific Rim' put an end to the rumors that they were going around about the next installment of the movie being a prequel to Pacific Rim 2013. He affirmed that making the first wave of invasions as central plot in the movie never interested him and that the latest installment will be featuring completely different sequences, which will not be similar to the original movie plot.

The original 'Pacific Rim' movie featured actors who included Diego Klatenhoff as Yancy Beckett, Charlie Hunnam as Raleigh Beckett, Idris Elba as Stacker Pentecost, Rinko Kikuchi as Mako Muri, and Charlie Day as Dr. Newton Geiszler, Burn Gorman as Gottlieb and Max Martini as Herc Hansen. Del Toro has also confirmed to the fans that the production of the movie has not yet started although the story line of the upcoming movie is underway. The good news is that the release date for the 'Pacific Rim 2' has been confirmed. Universal Studio has officially announced that the second installment of the movie has been scheduled to premiere on 17^th April 2017.

The first installment of the 'Pacific Rim' earned $37 million in its opening weekend and during its 2013 premiere. So far it has earned a gross of over $411 million in the whole world. Del Toro is known not to keep secrets about his movies. The trailer for Pacific Rim 2 is not yet out and fans will have to wait a while longer for that. During an interview he was engaged in, he said, "I want it to be different enough to the first one that you don't feel you're seeing the same movie. I'm doing a little more location oriented stuff, there are night battles, but there are also day battles. The things we're doing in the action scenes are very different from the first one. We are expanding the mythology of the Anteverse. We are taking the characters into a completely different journey this time, because Raleigh solved the problem the minute he was able to go full circle and save Mako by sacrificing himself, which is what he couldn't do with his brother. He's not on that journey anymore; he's on a new journey."
