The investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie, has taken a cautious step forward as the FBI recovers new images from motion-activated cameras at her Tucson, Arizona home. While the newly recovered images did not reveal anything suspicious on the night of her abduction, they provide law enforcement with additional context about the activity surrounding the property in the weeks leading up to and immediately following her disappearance.
Surveillance Cameras Yield New Evidence
Sources familiar with the investigation told ABC News that the FBI recovered thumbnail images captured by motion-activated cameras placed around Guthrie's swimming pool, backyard, and side yard. These stills show several individuals in the yards prior to her disappearance, along with law enforcement officers responding after she went missing.
Despite the new footage, investigators have not identified any suspects or unusual activity in these images. Officials note that the absence of footage from the night of her abduction may be explained by a device reportedly carried by the suspect-a masked man seen on earlier security footage with a backpack and what may have been a "signal jammer" to disable cameras.
"The Pima County Sheriff's Department continues to analyze various forms of evidence in the Nancy Guthrie case, including material from laboratories as well as images and videos captured by cameras," authorities said in a statement.
A Disappearance That Shook the Community
Nancy Guthrie, 84, went missing from her Tucson-area home in the early hours between January 31 and February 1, 2026. Though authorities have yet to determine a motive or identify a suspect, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff's Department remain actively investigating, leaving no avenue unexplored in hopes of safely recovering her.
The Guthrie family has actively supported the search. Savannah Guthrie recently pledged $1 million toward efforts to locate her mother, which, combined with law enforcement rewards, brings the total incentive to $1.2 million. Investigators continue to urge anyone with information to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or the Pima County Sheriff's Department at 520-351-4900.
Family and Faith Amid Uncertainty
While law enforcement works tirelessly to solve the case, Savannah Guthrie and her family have emphasized hope and faith during this difficult time. The additional images recovered from Nancy Guthrie's property help investigators understand the environment around her home and may aid in piecing together the timeline of events, even if the abduction itself was not captured.
"At this time, we will not comment on the details or status of this analysis," a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesperson said, highlighting the delicate and ongoing nature of the investigation.
The case continues to draw national attention, both for the mystery surrounding Nancy Guthrie's disappearance and the determined efforts of law enforcement and her family. Every recovered image, every lead, and every call from the public could be critical in bringing her home safely.
