Forrest Frank has transformed an unexpected career setback into a powerful moment of generosity-helping raise more than $90,000 for a ministry combating child trafficking in Guatemala.
What began as a frustrating name dispute for Frank and collaborator Noah Hayden has turned into a movement of impact, as their rebranded project-Party Wave-inspired thousands to give toward A Father's Heart Children's Ministry.
The Guatemala-based ministry works to protect vulnerable children from human trafficking by addressing extreme poverty through education, food programs, and long-term care. According to the organization, over 40,000 children in the region were trafficked last year, underscoring the urgency of their mission.
Originally, Frank and Hayden had launched their new musical venture under the name Dawn Patrol, inspired by their shared love of surfing. However, shortly after releasing their first single, their social media account was taken down due to copyright concerns. Rather than pursue a legal battle, the duo chose a different path-one rooted in faith and community.
"This whole project is to serve the Lord and bring people together," Frank shared. "Instead of fighting it, we saw an opportunity to let God use this moment for something bigger."
The pair invited fans to help rename the band, offering a $10,000 prize for the winning idea. Thousands participated, and the name Party Wave-a surfing term describing multiple riders sharing a single wave-was selected as the winner.
What followed exceeded expectations.
The naming campaign quickly gained traction online, turning into a viral fundraising effort that contributed more than $92,000 toward the ministry's $200,000 goal to build a refuge and healing center for children in Guatemala.
"We want to use it to bless someone out there," Hayden said, reflecting on the decision to pivot rather than fight the setback.
The story has resonated widely as a testament to how creativity, faith, and community can intersect to produce real-world impact. What began as a "wipeout" has become a wave of generosity-one that continues to grow.
