Animated TV Series Star Wars Rebels Releases a Short in Anticipation of Series Premiere
The Star Wars franchise has gone full steam ahead with upcoming sequel Star Wars Episode VII slated to hit the big screen in 2015. In the small screen however, Disney and Lucasfilms has already revealed that their next venture will be the animated series Star Wars Rebels. The official announcement came a few months back.
The animated series will take place five years before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and will follow the adventures of a rogue Jedi named Kanan Jarrus who survived Order 66 after the fall of the Galactic Empire. Kanan Jarrus will team up with 14-year old Ezra Bridger, a con-artist who can use the force and is seen by Kanan as a potential Jedi.
On Tuesday, Disney released a 3-minute short in anticipation of the premiere of the new series titled "The Machine in the Ghost." The short features the character of Kanan, Hera, and their astromech droid Chopper in their spaceship named Ghost engaging imperial TIE-Fighters in space.
"The Machine in the Ghost" is only one out of 4 other shorts that will be released by Disney/Lucasfilms before the premiere of Star Wars Rebels. The next short will be air Monday night on Disney XD, and will most likely go online shortly afterwards.
Star Wars Rebels stars the voice talents of Freddie Prinze, Jr., Taylor Gray, Steven Blum, Tiya Sircar, Vanessa Marshall, and Jason Isaacs. The show will also include a special participation of Star Wars Episode V and VI film actor Billy Dee Williams returning to his original role as Lando Calrissian.
Star Wars Rebels will premiere in October as a one-hour telecast on Disney Channel, then as a series on Disney XD. On the big screen, Star Wars Episode VII will be released on December 15, 2015.
