Filmed with the internationally recognized children's chorus from Staten Island, New York, the performance captured Grant visibly overcome with emotion as the children sang the song's powerful lyrics alongside her. At several moments, Grant appeared too choked up to continue singing, creating an unforgettable performance filled with grief, compassion and hope.
Written by Grant and singer-songwriter Ruby Amanfu, "How Do We Get There From Here" was released on the third anniversary of the Covenant tragedy, which claimed the lives of six people, including three children. The song reflects on violence, division and the search for healing in the aftermath of tragedy.
The emotional weight of the song became even more powerful through the voices of the PS22 students, whose heartfelt delivery transformed the performance into both a lament and a message of hope for the next generation.
Grant has spoken openly about the personal impact of the Covenant School shooting, which deeply affected the Nashville community and many within the Christian music world. The performance with the PS22 Chorus highlights the song's central message - a call for greater compassion, understanding and peace in a hurting world.
"How Do We Get There From Here" appears on Grant's latest album, The Me That Remains, her first full-length album of original music in more than a decade.
