Spotify Launches “Reserved” to Help Superfans Get Concert Tickets Before the General Public

Spotify is stepping deeper into the live music world with the launch of Reserved, a brand-new initiative designed to help artists' most loyal fans secure concert tickets before the general public.

The new feature, announced by Spotify, will allow selected Premium subscribers to access a reserved pool of tickets for upcoming tours based on their engagement with specific artists. According to the company, fan selection will be determined through factors such as streaming behavior, shares, saves, playlist activity, and other forms of interaction on the platform.

The move comes at a time when concert ticketing has become increasingly frustrating for music fans, with major tours often selling out within minutes due to bots, scalpers, dynamic pricing, and overwhelming demand. Spotify says Reserved is intended to reconnect tickets with genuine fans rather than resellers or casual buyers.

While the exact algorithm behind the selection process has not been fully revealed, Spotify emphasized that Reserved is meant to recognize "superfans" - listeners who consistently and actively support artists through the platform. However, the company also clarified that not every Premium subscriber or devoted listener will receive access, since demand will likely exceed available inventory for most tours.

Charlie Hellman, Spotify's head of music product, explained to Billboard that live experiences are becoming even more valuable in an increasingly AI-driven digital culture.

"As AI proliferates, real world experiences mean that much more," Hellman said. "To have the authentic experience of showing up and being with other superfans and being with the artists. It's always been the most special part of being a fan, and I think even more so now."

Industry observers are already viewing Reserved as Spotify's most direct push yet into fan-to-artist relationship building beyond streaming. In recent years, the platform has expanded into presale programs, merch integration, live event discovery, fan data tools, and artist-focused marketing systems. Reserved appears to be another step toward transforming Spotify from a streaming service into a broader fan-engagement ecosystem.

The initiative could also help artists reward their core supporters more directly. Rather than relying solely on traditional presales tied to credit cards, venues, or promoters, Reserved centers fan activity itself as the qualifying factor - potentially changing how ticket access is distributed in the future.

Spotify says the program will initially roll out in the United States this summer, with additional expansion expected later. Eligible fans will reportedly receive notifications through email and the Spotify app when they qualify for Reserved ticket opportunities.

The announcement has already sparked major conversation across the music industry, particularly as artists and fans continue searching for solutions to ongoing ticketing controversies surrounding high-demand tours and inflated resale prices. Whether Reserved can significantly improve the ticket-buying experience remains to be seen, but the initiative signals that streaming platforms are increasingly looking to play a direct role in the live music economy.
