Country music star Billy Ray Cyrus has revealed that he nearly lost his life during a severe battle with sepsis in 2024, describing his recovery as nothing short of a miracle.

In a new interview with People, Cyrus opened up about a frightening health crisis that left him repeatedly hospitalized and searching for answers. The singer recalled suffering from a mysterious condition that caused his body to swell dramatically and left doctors concerned about potentially fatal complications.

"As I was trying to stay alive, at times they sent me home from the hospital," Cyrus said. "My body was blowing up and there was a toxicity of some type or whatever. If it would have erupted, I would have died."

The health scare came amid a difficult season in the singer's life following his divorce from Tish Cyrus. According to Cyrus, his condition became so serious that he underwent multiple medical procedures and faced uncertain odds of survival.

Despite the grim prognosis, the "Achy Breaky Heart" hitmaker said his faith sustained him through the ordeal. He recalled visiting a "prayer rock" daily, pleading with God for healing.

"I was like, 'God, please, I need a miracle. I need a miracle,'" Cyrus shared.

What happened next, he says, stunned both him and his medical team. Returning to the hospital for what he believed would be a final surgery, Cyrus received unexpected news.

"They go, 'Mr. Cyrus, it's gone, you're healed,'" he said. "Love, hope, music, joy-things that I'd really have forgotten what they felt like-I got them back."

However, Cyrus' health challenges did not end there. Following his recovery from sepsis, he was diagnosed with vocal paralysis, threatening the career that made him a household name.

The singer said encouragement came from an unlikely source-his five-year-old grandson, Bear. During a particularly difficult moment, Bear spoke words that deeply impacted him.

"In this very broken moment of my life, my little grandson Bear looked at me and said, 'Try again,'" Cyrus recalled. "Up until that moment, he had never spoken to me at all."

The experience inspired Cyrus to persevere through both his health struggles and personal setbacks.

"In that moment I thought, 'He's telling you something,'" Cyrus said. "Is it about love? Music? Somehow, I got to try again at both. So I'm learning to try again."

The revelation offers a rare glimpse into one of the most challenging chapters of Cyrus' life and highlights the role faith, family, and perseverance played in his remarkable recovery.
