American Idol 2026 winner Hannah Harper and runner-up Jordan McCullough are looking ahead to the next chapter of their musical journeys, and both artists say faith, authenticity, and a commitment to their calling will remain at the center of everything they do.
In a recent interview with TV Insider, Harper and McCullough reflected on their remarkable rise from social media discoveries to becoming two of the most beloved contestants in American Idol history. Along the way, they opened up about their faith, the challenges of the competition, and the exciting plans they have for the future.
For Harper, the road to American Idol began unexpectedly. The singer-songwriter, who had only a few thousand followers on TikTok at the time, was posting everyday cleaning videos when an Idol recruiter noticed one of her clips featuring her singing. Initially skeptical, Harper ignored repeated invitations before eventually deciding to audition.
That decision changed her life.
Harper's original song "String Cheese" became one of the defining moments of the season and helped propel her all the way to the championship. Despite producers encouraging contestants to prepare cover songs, Harper chose to trust her instincts and perform her own music.
"I was glad I went ahead and sang my own song," Harper shared.
McCullough's journey was equally remarkable. Before American Idol, he auditioned for another major television singing competition but failed to receive a single chair turn. Rather than allowing disappointment to define him, McCullough used the experience as motivation.
"The first time I was trying to prove myself," he explained. "This time, either you're going to love it or you're not. I know the Lord loves me and I love Him, and He made this opportunity."
Throughout the season, both artists became fan favorites not only because of their talent but because of their humility, kindness, and openly expressed Christian faith.
Harper identified Disney Week as a major turning point in her journey, helping her grow as an entertainer and performer. McCullough pointed to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Week as the moment he truly discovered new dimensions of his artistry and stage presence.
While the competition brought tremendous success, it also presented challenges. Harper described the emotional and mental pressures of the long season, while McCullough admitted Taylor Swift Week pushed him outside his comfort zone as he worked to honor the iconic songwriter's catalog.
One of the most touching moments of the finale came when Harper finally shared the news of her victory with her children. Her husband FaceTimed them from the stage moments after she was crowned the winner.
The singer also praised her husband for providing unwavering support throughout the competition.
"At the end of each night, I could hand him the emotional weight of everything I was carrying," Harper said. "That was probably the best part."
Looking toward the future, both artists are preparing to enter a new season of ministry and music.
McCullough revealed that while he never considered himself a recording artist before American Idol, he is now eager to step into the studio and begin creating original music.
"People really want it. I really want it," he said. "I'm excited to see what the future holds."
Harper, meanwhile, already has a collection of songs ready for release. The singer-songwriter plans to spend the summer touring extensively while simultaneously recording new material.
"We're hitting the road almost every weekend," Harper explained. "A lot has happened in the last two years, and I'm ready to share more."
Perhaps the most significant takeaway from the experience for both contestants was the confidence they gained in their God-given calling.
Harper said the competition taught her to trust that she is exactly where she needs to be, while McCullough expressed gratitude that American Idol allowed contestants to remain authentic rather than forcing them into predetermined molds.
"I'm just so sure now that we're right where we need to be," McCullough said. "I'm grateful to American Idol for giving us the opportunity to evolve into who we were always meant to be."
As they prepare to launch their post-Idol careers, both Hannah Harper and Jordan McCullough are carrying forward not only newfound opportunities but also a powerful testimony of faith, perseverance, and purpose that resonated with millions of viewers throughout the season.
