She has performed at four FIFA World Cup opening ceremonies. But on Monday night in Dallas, Shakira was simply a mom in the stands - and the moment captured everyone's heart.
The Colombian superstar attended the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group J match between Argentina and Austria at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, joined by her sons Milan and Sasha for a memorable family outing.
Television cameras captured Shakira's excitement three times during the game. Her first appearance came early in the second half, when Milan hugged and kissed her - prompting a massive ovation from the 80,000 spectators.
Six minutes later, she appeared again with her children, waving and blowing kisses to the crowd.
The timing was significant. Inside that same stadium, Lionel Messi was making the kind of history that doesn't happen twice.
Messi scored his 17th and 18th World Cup goals against Austria, becoming the all-time leading scorer in men's FIFA World Cup history and breaking four Guinness World Records in a single match.
After the final whistle, Shakira took to her Instagram Story with a message for her longtime friend.
She wrote: "Very proud of you, Leo, and of everything you're achieving for your family, your country, and all Latinos!!! Your commitment and dedication are an example to many. Keep shining!"
Shakira's connection to the World Cup runs deep. She is the only artist with four official World Cup songs, having performed at multiple opening ceremonies across South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, and now Mexico City 2026, where she debuted "Dai Dai" with Burna Boy.
She is also set to headline the 2026 World Cup Final halftime show alongside BTS and Madonna in July.
For a singer whose music has soundtracked the world's biggest tournament for over a decade, cheering from the stands alongside her sons felt like the most personal version of that story yet.
Dedication to family - and a generous heart - are qualities that resonate far beyond any stage.
