Some albums entertain. Others make you stop and ask the hard questions. Switchfoot's new album is the latter.
The GRAMMY-winning San Diego rock band releases their long-awaited new studio album Forever Now on June 26 - tomorrow - and it may be their most spiritually honest work yet.
The 13-track project includes a collaboration with Lauren Daigle on a track titled "I Won't Let You Go," bringing together two of Christian music's most respected voices on what promises to be one of the year's most meaningful releases.
Produced by longtime collaborator Mike Elizondo, Forever Now centers on the emotional experience of a person's final day on Earth - and the questions one might ask when confronted with the reality of life's limits.
Frontman Jon Foreman drew from deeply personal grief to shape the album's themes. "We celebrate the firsts in our lives - our first breath, our first words, our first steps," Foreman said. "But the last ones? These moments are mostly unknown. We only see them in the rearview mirror. I have several friends on the other side of the grave and I can distinctly remember the last day we saw each other."
Those reflections led him to questions that feel universal - and deeply Christian. On the album's single "Absolution," Foreman wrestled openly with the tension of regret and the longing for grace. "While writing 'Absolution,' I found myself asking, 'What wouldn't I have done in my life? Can I make amends? Is there absolution for these things?'" he said.
"The true fight is the inner fight," Foreman has said of the album's core message. "Who are you? What's worth living for?"
The questions Switchfoot is asking on Forever Now are the same ones followers of faith have wrestled with for centuries - and the band is not afraid to sit in the tension rather than rush to easy answers.
That honesty is exactly what has kept Switchfoot's music resonating across decades. With over 10 million albums sold worldwide across 13 studio albums, this is a band that has earned the right to ask the hard questions - and a fanbase that is ready to ask them alongside.
Switchfoot has also announced a 38-date Forever Now Tour this fall with special guest Anberlin. "These songs are incredibly meaningful to us - increasingly relevant in the 'strange, strange times' we live in," bassist Tim Foreman said.
