After 266 Days in a Chinese Prison, Pastor Finally Arrives in America and Reunites With His Family

After spending 266 days behind bars in China, Pastor Ezra Jin is finally back where he longed to be-with his family.

The founder of one of China's largest underground churches has arrived safely in the United States after being released from prison, bringing an emotional end to months of uncertainty and international concern over his detention. The reunion comes after what supporters describe as one of China's most significant crackdowns on a single Christian congregation in decades.

Jin founded Beijing's Zion Church in 2007, growing it into one of the country's largest unregistered Christian fellowships. But in October 2025, authorities arrested him along with dozens of other church members during a sweeping government operation targeting the congregation. Prosecutors reportedly charged him with illegally using information networks, while several members of the church remain in detention.

Now, after more than eight months in prison, Jin has reunited with his family on American soil.

According to reports, President Donald Trump personally raised Jin's case with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a trip to Beijing earlier this year. Jin's family credited Trump's leadership with helping secure the pastor's release, although the circumstances surrounding the agreement have not been publicly detailed.

While Jin is now free, the story is far from over.

Human Rights Watch says at least eight other members of Zion Church remain detained in China, with little public information available about their legal status or when they might face trial. Advocates for religious freedom continue calling for their release and warn that many details surrounding the remaining cases remain unclear.

Observers say Jin's imprisonment reflects a broader campaign by Chinese authorities to tighten control over religious organizations and independent thought. For years, unregistered house churches have faced increasing restrictions as officials seek greater oversight of religious activity throughout the country.

Supporters of the pastor are celebrating his freedom while continuing to pray for those still behind bars. For Jin and his family, however, the long-awaited reunion marks the beginning of a new chapter after nearly nine months of separation.

Although Ezra Jin no longer appears to be facing charges, the future remains uncertain for the remaining members of Zion Church who continue to be held in China, leaving many believers around the world watching closely and hoping more families will soon experience reunions of their own.
