Phil Robertson wasn't about to let anyone edit Jesus out of his prayers-and according to his sons, the Duck Dynasty patriarch made sure producers never tried it again.
During a recent appearance on The Resilient Show podcast, Willie and Jase Robertson pulled back the curtain on one of the most unforgettable behind-the-scenes moments from the hit reality series. The brothers revealed that Phil was furious after producers removed the words "in Jesus' name" from one of his televised prayers, believing it would make the show appeal to a broader audience.
Jase explained that the production team likely thought they were making a harmless editorial decision, but they had seriously underestimated Phil's unwavering convictions.
Their next family dinner became the perfect opportunity for Phil to respond-and he certainly didn't hold back.
Instead of offering a routine blessing, Phil reportedly launched into a passionate prayer for the television crew, asking God to save the "hellions from Hollywood" who had dared to remove Jesus' name from his previous prayer. He even prayed that they would be spared "the fires of hell" before finishing with a triumphant, "In your Son's glorious name, Amen."
The room immediately fell silent.
Then the Robertson family burst into laughter.
The camera operators, however, were reportedly horrified.
According to Jase, the stunned director eventually broke the awkward silence by asking if Phil could say another prayer-this time one that could actually be broadcast on television.
Phil had already made his point.
The family says they don't remember Jesus ever being edited out of another on-air prayer after that incident.
The podcast also uncovered another clash between the Robertsons and producers. Jase recalled refusing to fake building a children's playhouse that he believed was unsafe after the production crew altered it during filming for comedic effect.
He refused to pretend the dangerous structure was his work, insisting he would never build anything that could put children at risk. After confronting the crew and explaining why he wouldn't compromise his standards, the producers eventually backed down and allowed him to finish the project properly.
Despite the occasional behind-the-scenes disagreements, the Robertsons said they generally enjoyed working with the production team because they were usually willing to listen whenever the family stood firm on issues they considered important.
That mutual respect ultimately helped pave the way for the Robertson family's successful return to television with the Duck Dynasty revival, proving that while there were creative clashes along the way, the family's faith and values always remained front and centre.
