Cade Thompson is opening up about one of the darkest moments of his life-and the prayer that changed everything.
Appearing on Hannah Kerr's In the Middle of It podcast, the Christian singer revealed there was a season when he genuinely believed his music career might be over. Returning home to South Dakota during an uncertain chapter of his life, Thompson said he fell to his knees and surrendered everything to God.
"I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to do music again, but I trust You with it," he recalled praying. It was in that moment, he said, that God reminded him his identity could never be rooted in his career, but only in being a child of God.
The emotional confession came as Thompson reflected on the upheaval surrounding the pandemic, which arrived just as his first radio single was gaining momentum. Suddenly, the future he'd dreamed about seemed uncertain, forcing him to confront whether his faith depended on his success or on Christ alone.
Today, Thompson says that lesson continues to shape every decision he makes.
The singer also gave fans a glimpse into his newlywed life with wife Amber, whom he married in October 2025. Their marriage began with an unexpected blessing when a last-minute opening on his tour bus allowed Amber to join him on the road, giving the couple the opportunity to begin married life while serving in ministry together.
But their love story almost took a very different turn.
Thompson revealed the couple once spent seven weeks apart after breaking up, describing it as one of the most refining seasons of his life. He admitted losing Amber had become one of his greatest fears, yet God used the painful separation to deepen his faith and remind him that his hope could never rest in another person.
When the two reconciled, Thompson looked at Amber and promised, "I will never let you go"-words that later inspired the wedding song he surprised her with on their wedding day. Even more remarkably, the song was released to streaming platforms the very day they were married without Amber knowing it had been recorded.
The couple has also made serving others central to their marriage. At their wedding, every guest received a card asking them to write down a personal prayer request. Thompson and Amber have continued praying through those requests ever since, saying they've already witnessed remarkable answers to prayer.
Away from the spotlight, Thompson revealed another surprising decision: he has removed social media from his phone.
Although he still posts online, the singer said he now manages his accounts from a computer because endless scrolling had become a distraction. The change, he explained, has helped him stay present with people and devote more time to Scripture rather than social media.
Fans won't have to wait much longer to hear what God has been teaching him through those quiet years.
