Hilary Duff gave fans an unexpected treat during the opening night of her two sold-out shows at New York's Madison Square Garden on August 5, bringing pop-punk band Good Charlotte onstage for a surprise performance of their 2002 hit "The Anthem."
The moment came during Duff's Lucky Me Tour stop, with the singer inviting Joel and Benji Madden up to join her band for the raucous, sing-along favorite from Good Charlotte's breakout album, The Young and the Hopeless. Fan-captured clips of the performance quickly circulated online, with concertgoers calling it one of the standout surprises of the tour so far.
Duff kicked off The Lucky Me Tour in June, marking her return to the road as a touring artist. Her husband, musician Matthew Koma, has also joined Good Charlotte onstage during their run this year, making the crossover between the two camps a recurring theme of the summer touring season.
Duff is set to close out her two-night Madison Square Garden run on August 6, with the tour continuing to additional U.S. dates afterward.
