A TaMyya J Exclusive: Why “God Is Good” Became More Than A Church Saying

Published: Aug 18, 2026 03:52 AM EDT

For acclaimed Gospel singer TaMyya J, "God is good" is no longer simply a familiar phrase heard from church pews-it is a declaration she says has been tested through the highs, heartbreaks, closed doors, and unexpected turns of her own life.

The New Jersey native, whose journey has taken her from singing in church and winning the Youth Division of the McDonald's Gospelfest to sharing stages with Mary Mary, appearing alongside Erica Campbell, scoring No. 1 radio singles, and hosting her syndicated Never Missed A Beat with TaMyya J radio show, is turning that testimony into music with her new single, "God Is Good." Rather than pretending faith guarantees an easy road, TaMyya J says the song was born from discovering God's faithfulness precisely when life did not unfold the way she expected. In our new interview, she opens up about the disappointments that deepened her faith, the closed doors she now sees as protection, why she believes private preparation matters more than public success, and what God may be preparing for her next.

Q: For readers who may be meeting you for the first time, who is TaMyya J, and what has been the journey that brought you to where you are today?

TaMyya J:  I'm someone who loves the LORD JESUS and desires for my life to reflect HIM. Every title I've been blessed to carry, recording artist, songwriter, worship leader, radio host, wife, and mother is secondary to my identity as GOD's daughter.

My journey began in church as a little girl. Worship wasn't something I learned to do, it's the language of my heart. Looking back, I can see how GOD was writing a story that I never imagined. HE opened doors that no one else could open and faithfully guided me through every season, from singing in my local church to winning the Youth Division of the McDonald's Gospelfest with my friends Praise, serving alongside major artists, leading worship, and encouraging listeners around the world through the Never Missed A Beat with TaMyya J radio show.

But the greatest testimony isn't where GOD has taken me, it's the fact that HE has never left me.  Psalm 100:5 reminds us, "For the LORD is good; HIS steadfast love endures forever, and HIS faithfulness continues through all generations." My prayer is that people don't simply see my journey, they see the GOD who has carried me every step of the way.

Q: Your new single, "God Is Good," is built around a declaration that generations of believers have spoken in church. What inspired you to turn those familiar words into such a personal testimony through song?

TaMyya J: We've all heard the familiar response: "GOD is good."  "All the time."  It's a declaration that has echoed through churches for generations. But one day, I began reflecting on those words.

As I looked back over my life, I realized that every chapter, whether joyful or painful, was marked by HIS goodness. There were prayers HE answered exactly as I hoped, and there were prayers HE answered differently than I expected. Yet in every circumstance, HIS love remained constant.

That's when this song became more than music. It became my testimony.

I pray that every listener moves beyond simply singing the phrase "GOD is good" and begins to live it with confidence. As Psalm 34:8 says, "Taste and see that the LORD is good." My hope is that this song invites people to experience HIS goodness for themselves.

Q: You have experienced both incredible milestones and difficult seasons in your life and career. How has walking through those highs and lows deepened your understanding that God is good, regardless of the circumstances?

TaMyya J: I am learning that GOD's goodness isn't proven by the absence of storms, it's revealed by His presence in the middle of them.

There have been moments that exceeded my dreams, and there have been seasons where I questioned what GOD was doing. Looking back now, I realize that some of GOD's greatest blessings came through delays, disappointments, and closed doors that protected me from what wasn't meant for me.

Lamentations 3 reminds us that HIS mercies are new every morning. That means every sunrise is another reminder that GOD has not forgotten HIS us.

I don't sing about GOD's goodness because life has been easy. I sing because HE has been faithful through every chapter in my life. HE has never changed, and HE has always shown HIS love .

Q: You began singing in church as a child and later won the Youth Division of the McDonald's Gospelfest, launching a remarkable career. Looking back, what moments do you believe God used to prepare you for the ministry you have today?

TaMyya J: Every season is a preparation.

Growing up in a household where praise and worship was the norm has taught me how to worship whether at home, church or a platform. Those quiet moments with HIM, simply singing because I love HIM, became the foundation

Winning the McDonald's Gospelfest was certainly a significant milestone, but today I understand it wasn't the destination, it is one step in GOD's  plan. Every opportunity, every lesson, every relationship, and even every setback became part of HIS process of shaping my journey .

I believe it's GOD's intention to develop our hearts more than building our resumes. Before HE promotes you publicly, HE often prepares you privately.

Q: Throughout your career, your music has consistently encouraged and uplifted people. What message do you hope listeners will take away after hearing "God Is Good," especially those who may be struggling with disappointment or hardship?

TaMyya J: I want every listener to know that your pain does not cancel GOD's promises.

Perhaps you've prayed and are still waiting. Perhaps you've experienced loss, disappointment, or heartbreak. I understand those moments. But I also know that GOD is still writing your story.

Romans 8:28 reminds us that HE works all things together for good for those who love HIM. Sometimes we don't understand HIS process while we're living through it, but one day we'll look back and recognize HIS fingerprints all over our lives.

My greatest desire is that people will listen and believe that GOD has never stopped being good.

Q: As "God Is Good" reaches audiences around the world, what's next for you? Can fans look forward to more new music, live performances, or other exciting ministry opportunities in the months ahead?

TaMyya J: Absolutely! I believe we're stepping into an exciting new season, and I'm grateful for every opportunity GOD has for me. You can look forward to new music, worship experiences, live events, and I will continue to connect with audiences through the syndicated Rejoice Networks, and other radio affiliates on my Never Missed A Beat with TaMyya J radio show.

But beyond projects and performances, my greatest prayer is wherever GOD sends me, I want people to encounter HIS presence. May every song, every stage, and every opportunity point hearts to Jesus. To HIM alone be all the glory.  Praise the LORD.

"God Is Good" is available now on all major digital music platforms and is currently playing on Gospel radio stations nationwide.
