Veronica Petrucci is turning the darkest chapter of her life into a soaring gospel testimony-and she has enlisted the legendary Mississippi Mass Choir to help her tell it.
The award-winning singer, best known as one-half of the husband-and-wife duo Angelo & Veronica, has released "Made It Out Alive" as her new radio single. Written by Petrucci and The Voice alum Will Champlin, the deeply personal song recounts her battle with depression and the day she says she planned to take her own life before God intervened.
Rather than hiding that painful history, Petrucci places it at the very center of the song, transforming a moment of despair into a declaration of survival, faith and divine rescue. The Mississippi Mass Choir adds its unmistakable power to the recording, surrounding Petrucci's impassioned lead vocal with the kind of full-bodied gospel sound the song's testimony demands.
"Made It Out Alive" has reportedly become Petrucci's No. 1 song on Spotify, while its Spanish-language counterpart, "Por Ti Sobreviví," has climbed to No. 2. The Spanish recording carries particular significance for the singer, who is of Puerto Rican descent and has long brought her cultural heritage together with the musical traditions of Black gospel.
The single appears on the newly remastered Made It Out Alive Deluxe Edition, which includes four previously unreleased tracks and an unusually star-studded guest list. Fred Hammond, John P. Kee, Shirley Murdock, Canton Jones, Will Champlin, Angelo Petrucci and the Mississippi Mass Choir all appear across the expanded project.
Petrucci's husband and producer, Dr. Angelo Petrucci, called his wife "one of the most gifted but underrated voices of our time," insisting that her character carries even greater weight than her vocal ability.
"Veronica is a gem from God that has been hidden away for such a time as this," he said. "I personally have used this album as a tool to minister to others. It is powerful! Veronica, my wife, is my heart, and I know this music will touch your soul."
The release arrives as Angelo & Veronica enjoy renewed attention online. Their song "All Things Work" recently generated more than 1.5 million views across TikTok and Instagram, introducing their soulful husband-and-wife chemistry to a new generation of listeners. The pair has drawn comparisons to celebrated musical couples and duos including Ashford & Simpson, Rick James and Teena Marie, and BeBe & CeCe Winans.
Angelo & Veronica have now released 15 albums together, including their latest project, Created for You. Yet "Made It Out Alive" may be among their most vulnerable releases, allowing listeners into a crisis that Veronica could once barely survive, much less sing about publicly.
What could have remained a private story of depression has become her boldest ministry statement: she reached the edge, believed God met her there and lived to sing alongside one of gospel music's most revered choirs.
