Scott Aniol Loses Seminary Role After Explosive Church Resignation and Anonymous Plagiarism Campaign

The fallout surrounding G3 Ministries President Scott Aniol is widening, with Grace Bible Theological Seminary announcing that the prominent theologian is no longer serving on its faculty.

"Dr. Scott Aniol is no longer serving on the faculty of GBTS," the Arkansas seminary announced on September 4. "We are grateful for his years of service to our students and for his contributions to the ministry of the seminary. We wish him the Lord's blessing in his future endeavors."

The carefully worded statement did not explain whether Aniol resigned or was dismissed. It simply asked supporters to pray during the transition as the institution continues its mission of providing "biblically faithful theological training."

But the timing is impossible to overlook.

The announcement came shortly after Aniol and three other elders resigned from Pray's Mill Baptist Church following their extraordinary public admission that they had sinned against First Baptist Church of Lindale, Texas, and its senior pastor, Tom Buck.

At the center of the controversy was an anonymous packet accusing Buck of plagiarizing portions of several sermons. The material was reportedly circulated to multiple individuals without identifying those responsible for assembling or distributing it. Aniol and the other elders subsequently acknowledged their involvement and apologized for their actions.

"We have sinned," the four men confessed in their public statement, accepting responsibility for misconduct surrounding the accusations against Buck. Their resignations represented a dramatic reckoning for leaders associated with a movement known for its forceful calls for biblical fidelity, pastoral accountability and doctrinal integrity.

Aniol had served at Grace Bible Theological Seminary as professor of pastoral theology. Although the seminary has not explicitly connected his departure to the Pray's Mill controversy, its announcement arrived amid mounting questions about his leadership roles and future in ministry.

The latest development is especially striking because Aniol was elevated to the presidency of G3 Ministries only in July 2025. He succeeded G3 founder Josh Buice, who resigned as president and began an indefinite leave from pastoral ministry after admitting to "divisive" and "sinful" conduct.

That means G3 has now faced major leadership turmoil involving two successive presidents. Buice's downfall opened the door for Aniol to lead the influential conservative Christian organization, but little more than a year later, Aniol is confronting a controversy of his own.

The seminary's restrained farewell also leaves several significant questions unanswered. It has not disclosed when the decision was made, whether the separation was voluntary or what process led to Aniol's removal from the faculty roster. His status as G3 Ministries president also remains a subject of intense interest as the repercussions continue.

What began as a dispute over alleged sermon plagiarism has now produced resignations from a local church eldership and the loss of a seminary teaching position. For a movement that has repeatedly emphasized accountability among Christian leaders, the scandal has become a painful test of whether those standards will be applied inside its own ranks.
