Evangeline Lilly says walking away from Hollywood came down to fame, her health and her faith. The 47-year-old actress, known for Lost and Marvel's Hope van Dyne, told CBN News she walked away because of her discomfort with fame, health problems and a desire for a more meaningful life guided by her Christian faith.

She said, "I've always hated being famous." She also described moments of fear as she let go of power, influence and potential money. On health, she said it has dramatically improved since she stopped acting, after years of chronic health issues she linked to the demands of her career.

Her faith is central to how she describes the decision. Lilly said she believes God has a greater purpose for her life beyond acting. She called the shift liberating and beautiful.

The timeline. Lilly stepped away from the limelight in 2020 but didn't share it publicly until 2024. Her last role was in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in 2023. Separately, she fainted and fell onto a boulder in Hawaii in May 2025. In January, she said brain scans showed "almost every area" of her brain functioning at decreased capacity. That injury came years after she stepped back from acting.

Please keep Evangeline Lilly in your prayers as she continues her recovery.
