Want To Open For KB? Camp Electric’s Talent Search Puts Aspiring Christian Artists In The Spotlight

Could a single performance video lead to an opening slot for KB? Camp Electric is inviting aspiring Christian artists to find out through its fourth annual Rock the Camp competition, powered by Fender. With submissions open through November 6, the contest offers one winner a chance to take the stage before the Dove Award-winning rapper next summer-and put their music before an audience beyond their existing followers.

The competition brings recognizable Christian music names into the judging process. Colton Dixon, Terrian, bodie, producer and composer Tommee Profitt, and Provident/Sony Music executive Charles Van Dyke will help select the winner. For entrants, the opportunity begins with getting their performance in front of people who understand the demands of making music professionally.

Getting that far will also require support from listeners. Public voting runs November 2-15, with supporters permitted one vote per valid email address each day. Votes will be the primary factor in determining the five finalists, although organizers retain oversight of the results under the contest rules. The format gives artists a practical challenge alongside the musical one: can they persuade people to keep showing up for their work?

The grand prize makes that effort tangible. According to the official rules, the winner receives a 15-minute performance slot before KB at Camp Electric in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on June 30, 2027, plus a Fender 75th Anniversary guitar. The performance offers a defined opportunity to introduce their songs, connect with listeners, and experience the preparation involved in opening for an established artist.

There is also a past winner whose subsequent career gives hopeful entrants something to consider. Joseph O'Brien won Rock the Camp in 2019 and later signed with Gotee Records. His experience illustrates how the competition can form part of an artist's development, while the prize itself remains a performance opportunity rather than a recording contract.

The contest extends Camp Electric's emphasis on helping musicians develop their abilities in a Christian setting. Its next camp takes place June 27-July 1, 2027, at Middle Tennessee State University, welcoming students ages 13-19 for an experience centered on music, instruction, and faith. Rock the Camp gives aspiring performers an additional reason to put their preparation into practice now.

Artists interested in entering should check the requirements carefully. The contest is open to eligible U.S. residents ages 13 and older, including individuals and groups, and requires a two- to six-minute video featuring one song. Entries close at 10 a.m. EST on November 6; travel and accommodations are not included in the prize.

For the musician wondering whether anyone beyond their church, family, or social feed will hear their work, the invitation is straightforward: choose a song and deliver a performance worth sharing. The next question belongs to the listeners-and, eventually, the judges.
