Kim Hill and Paulette Wooten are opening up about the relationship that changed their lives-and, they say, cost them their careers in Christian music. Sixteen years after falling in love, the pair are returning as Wooten Hill with How Did We Get Here, an album whose title invites listeners into the story behind their departure.
"We disqualified ourselves from Christian music," Hill told PEOPLE in an October 23 interview. She described losing friendships, professional opportunities, and family relationships after the women became a couple. Despite those losses, Wooten offered an unequivocal assessment of their life together: "We honestly have zero regret."
Their comeback brings them back to a room with its own history. According to their official website, the twelve-track album was recorded at Nashville's Blueroom Studios, where producer Brent Maher first encouraged them to sing together. Wooten Hill co-produced the project with Grammy winner Charles Yingling.
That setting gives the release a telling detail: the place where someone first recognized their potential as a duo became the place where they recorded this new chapter. The question posed by the title now has an album's worth of answers, covering love, loss, changing faith, and starting again.
The pair are also extending the conversation beyond the record. Their companion podcast, The Road to Wooten Hill, promises stories behind the songs and conversations about leaving familiar worlds, reconsidering inherited expectations, and rebuilding a life. Their website lists October 27 as the start of weekly Tuesday episodes.
For longtime listeners, the release offers a chance to hear how Hill and Wooten now describe the years between their former careers and their return. For the duo, it puts their own account at the center of the comeback: how they understand the losses, the relationship, and the music they still want to make.
How Did We Get Here was released October 23. Find the album and podcast information at Wooten Hill's official website.
