Snoop Dogg's life story is headed to theaters, but whether his gospel chapter makes the final cut has not been confirmed.
Universal Pictures has set Snoop for an August 6, 2027 release. Jonathan Daviss of Outer Banks plays the rapper, born Calvin Broadus Jr., with Craig Brewer directing. Snoop Dogg, producer Brian Grazer and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker are producing. Production was scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in mid-September.
The film is R-rated. Snoop told the CinemaCon crowd in April that he wanted to "get gangster with it." The cast includes Tre Hale as Suge Knight, Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur, Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre, Algee Smith as Warren G and Lauren London as Snoop's mother.
What hasn't been confirmed is whether the story reaches his faith. Nothing released so far says Bible of Love will appear. Some fan pages have suggested it might, but that is speculation.
The history is real, though. Snoop released the 32-song double album on March 16, 2018, with Charlie Wilson, Faith Evans, Tye Tribbett, Kim Burrell and The Clark Sisters. It reached No. 1 on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart. He said the project had "always been on my heart" and that he kept putting it off while busy with his other work.
A trailer is expected at CinemaCon 2027, the next likely chance to see how much of that story the film tells.
