Nigel Durham, the former Saxon drummer who played on the British metal band's 1988 album Destiny, has died at 61.
Saxon announced the news on Facebook on Oct. 24, calling him part of "the Saxon family" and sending love to his wife Lauretta, daughter Gemma, his grandchildren and family. A cause of death has not been reported.
Durham drummed for Saxon from 1987 to 1988, stepping in for Nigel Glockler. He later played with Son of a Bitch and then Oliver/Dawson Saxon from 2000 to 2010, followed by Morpheus Rising from 2013 to 2016.
Glockler, Saxon's current drummer, posted his own farewell, writing, "I will see you on the other side." Matt Black, who played with Durham in a solo project, remembered him as a gentleman and a powerhouse drummer. A fellow musician who knew him from school called him a top drummer and a top guy.
NextMosh reports that Durham had personally debunked a false death report in April, so Saxon's statement is the first official confirmation.
JubileeCast extends prayers for comfort to the Durham family during this time.
