Prince William told The Graham Norton Show that as a child he dreamed of becoming a policeman, and later went through a DJ phase complete with a stage name: DJ Xara.

The 44-year-old Prince of Wales was asked by host Graham Norton whether he ever pictured a different life from the one he was born into. William said yes, joking that he was working out what he could say on television. He said he thought he would have made a good policeman, and Norton pointed out that he certainly has the height. William is reported to stand about 1.91 meters (6 ft 3 in).

The DJ dream came next. William said he came up with the name "DJ Xara," with the X at the front, and admitted it "wasn't good." He said the phase faded when it suddenly became uncool, and he never DJ'd at school parties because he never got good enough.

The appearance on October 23 was described as history-making. He mainly came on for a special Earthshot edition of the show, to talk about his Earthshot Prize, which aims to celebrate and scale solutions that repair the planet.

His answers touch on an idea many people of faith will recognize: a calling. William was born into a life of duty, yet he dreamed of a path of protecting others. Today he puts his name behind a prize that rewards efforts to care for the world around us.
