Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell says his faith in God has never been stronger as he recovers from a neck injury that left him being carted off the field against the Minnesota Vikings. In a Nov. 4 statement released by the Lions, the 26-year-old said he had full movement in his lower body and was making progress with movement in his upper body. He thanked fans for praying for him and asked them to continue praying for his family.

Campbell was injured while tackling Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson on the first play of the fourth quarter of Detroit's 19-15 win on Nov. 1. Lions players gathered around him as medical personnel prepared to take him off the field. He was alert and breathing when he was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Head coach Dan Campbell and several teammates visited him that evening.

"My faith in God has never been stronger. I know He has a plan for me, and I trust in that plan," Campbell said. He acknowledged that he still had work ahead and said he was focusing on getting better one day at a time. He credited his faith, his family and the people supporting him with helping him face the challenges still ahead.

For Lions quarterback Jared Goff, seeing his teammate injured brought home what the moment meant for Campbell's family. "It just brings you back to reality for a moment that he's a husband and a father," Goff said after the game, adding that the team was praying for him.

Campbell singled out the trainers and medical personnel who first reached him on the field. He also thanked the staff at Henry Ford Hospital and the Lions' medical team for the care they had shown him and his family. He described the Lions as a family and said he intended to approach recovery with the toughness he associates with Detroit.

Campbell closed his update with a request for continued prayer and six words about where he finds his strength. "God is good. My faith is strong."
