New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson is expressing trust in Jesus as he recovers from a medical emergency that required several days in hospital and has left the cause of his symptoms unresolved.
In a statement shared on Friday, November 6, the 24-year-old revealed that unexplained neurological symptoms have affected his strength, coordination, and some physical functions. Henderson said extensive testing had produced reassuring results, although doctors had yet to determine the cause.
As he faces that uncertainty, Henderson said his Christian faith continues to give him peace.
"Most importantly, I want to thank Jesus for giving me a peace that surpasses all understanding," he wrote.
"Despite all of this, my heart rejoices in The Lord and my heart is at peace knowing that He is always faithful and His promise of Romans 8:28 always remains true."
Henderson cited the biblical promise that God works all things together for the good of those who love him, then explained how that conviction shapes his response to suffering.
"The purpose of trials in life is not to drive us away from God, but to only bring us closer. May God's Will be done, not mine."
Henderson said he will continue working with specialists and physical therapists, with his health and long-term wellbeing taking priority. He thanked his wife, family, medical team, the Patriots organisation, and those who have offered encouragement and prayer.
The Patriots have ruled Henderson out of their November 8 game against the Green Bay Packers. He also missed the team's November 1 victory over the Miami Dolphins because of illness.
The former Ohio State running back has frequently spoken about his faith, including during difficult moments. In an October 25 social media post, he described Christ as his hope and strength, expressing a desire to glorify Jesus both in success and in suffering.
His latest statement carries that same conviction into a period of medical uncertainty. As he focuses on recovery, Henderson has asked supporters for continued prayers and privacy.
