NEEDTOBREATHE is expanding The Long Surrender with six new collaborations, bringing Anne Wilson, Jonah Kagen, Evan Honer, Conner Smith, Bre Kennedy and The Jack Wharff Band into the next chapter of the album.
Arriving November 19, 2026, via MCA, The Long Surrender and The Fellow Passengers of Pain combines the original 12-song collection with six additional tracks for an 18-song release. The expanded project continues the original album's exploration of letting go, personal struggle and the possibility of renewal.
Released March 27, The Long Surrender marked the band's tenth studio album. Produced by Dave Cobb and recorded at his Savannah, Georgia, studio, the original collection was recorded largely live, placing Bear Rinehart's personal songwriting at the centre of the performances. Its approach brought an informal, immediate feel to the band's combination of Americana and alternative rock.
The deluxe edition grew out of a continuing burst of creativity. Announcing the project in September, keyboardist Josh Lovelace described the band as being in a period of musical overflow, with additional songs they wanted to share during the same album cycle. He introduced "Can't Apologize," featuring Jonah Kagen, as a recording shaped by the musicians playing together in a room and responding to the moment.
Listeners can already hear several of the new partnerships. The band's official website features "Can't Apologize" with Kagen, "Past The Gates" with Wilson, "Never Gonna Deserve Ya" with Honer and "Free Fall" with Smith, alongside their lyric videos.
Wilson welcomed the opportunity to join a band she had followed for years.
"I have been a huge fan of NEEDTOBREATHE for years," she said, calling her participation "an honor."
The release also retains "Momma Loves Me," the original album's collaboration with The Red Clay Strays. Together, the returning recording and six additions give the expanded collection seven guest collaborations.
NEEDTOBREATHE will take the project on the road with The Long Surrender and The Fellow Passengers of Pain Tour in early 2027. The announced 22-date U.S. run begins February 18 in Omaha, Nebraska, and concludes March 20, with stops including New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., Orlando and Houston. Drew & Ellie Holcomb, Conner Smith and The National Parks will provide support on select dates.
