Los Angeles Lakers Trade Rumors: Will They Take Eric Bledsoe In For Next Season?
The Los Angeles Lakers last season missed the playoffs what with superstars Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash both saddled with injuries. The 2013-14 season was in fact the worst season in the history of the Lakers' franchise. The terrible finish however landed them the seventh pick in the draft, which is only the third time in the last 20 years in which they got to pick, and they used it to get Julius Randle from Kentucky. They also got to hire a new coach, Byron Scott, who will be replacing Mike D'Antoni who parted ways with the team. Next season, they will have only four players under contract, namely Bryant, Randle, Nick Young and Jordan Clarkson, so they will have a much larger cap space. With the bigger cap space, they may still be able get some better known talents, including the likes of Eric Bledsoe who is currently with the Phoenix Suns.
Eric Bledsoe, according to Alex Kennedy of Basketballinsiders.com, will likely sign a one-year qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent next summer. He will likely take the one-year deal worth $3.7 million, less than the 4-year, $48 million offer originally set with the Phoenix Suns, but which will allow him to become an unrestricted free agent next year. The Lakers would be a solid landing spot according to Kennedy. Actually, a deal to send him to Los Angeles under a sign-and-trade has already been going the rounds of the NBA rumor mills for a time already. "If the rumors are true," said Anthony Irwin of Rant Sports, "Bledsoe would be the best point guard the Lakers have had since Nick Van Exel decades ago, but he comes with his share of red flags. He's never played an entire season as the starting point guard in either the NBA or NCAA....Last season would've been his first complete season had it not been for that knee injury." Despite the injury, Bledsoe managed to put up 17.7 points, 5.5 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game last season.
