Christian Today reported that it will be packed with more than 5,000 new APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). It is important to note that this is not the final number as the developers could reveal more surprises in the final build of the anticipated update. There were previous speculations which suggested that the new Android L would be released alongside the pure Android devices like the Nexus 6 and probably the Nexus 8 tablet, but the development of those products is now in doubt. Based on the release of the previous Android KitKat 4.4 which happened last year in November, the next OS from Google can be expected between October and November this year.

According to a presentation by Google's Android Team in last month's I/O developer's conference, one of the main considerations of the new Android L is the improved general user interface. The new design will feature a flat interface based on what they call "Material Design". Meanwhile, others believe that the new Android L will be rolling out soon due to the high turnover of gadgets which is making it difficult for developers to upgrade. For example, according to Android Origin, forty-one different Android smartphones were released by Samsung in 2013 alone.
