MTV VMA 2014: Big Winners, Awareness Campaign and Emotional Moments
MTV VMA 2014: Big Winners, Wardrobe Malfunction, Awareness Campaign and Emotional Moments
This year's MTV Music Video Awards is again not complete without the drama, epic performances, unscripted and wardrobe malfunction, the outrageous or the silliest moments from the biggest names in the music industry, held at The Forum in Inglewood, California recently.
That night's biggest winners are Beyonce and Miley Cyrus taking home the biggest awards from the annual and always splashy and sparkling MTV VMA. Beyonce took home the major awards including, Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, Best Collaboration Award for "Drunk in Love" that features her husband Jay Z, Best Cinematography and Best Video with a Social Message Award both for "Pretty Hurts."
Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus made a different turn this time when compared to her raunchy and twerking loaded performance with Robin Thicke last year. She won the award for Video of the Year for "Wrecking Ball" and sent her mystery date named Jesse to receive her award. Miley, instead stayed behind at the audience while in tears as she watches Jesse, a homeless man deliver an important message. This is part of Cyrus' active participation for an awareness campaign for youth homelessness in Los Angeles and the rest of America.
"Thank y'all, my name is Jesse and I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now. I know this because I am one of these people. I've cleaned your hotels rooms, I've been an extra in your movies, I've been an extra in your life. Though I may have been invisible to you in the streets, I have many of the same dreams that brought many of you here tonight."
There were also performances from Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and Jessie J in a medley of their hits, Taylor Swift debut performance of her upbeat single "Shake It Off," Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora with "Black Widow," British newcomer Sam Smith with "Stay With Me," Maroon 5 with "Maps," and the closing 20-minute medley performance of Beyonce.
Other winners include, Ed Sheeran (Best Male Video - Sing), Katy Perry (Best Female Video - Dark Horse), Fifth Harmony (Artist to Watch - Miss Movin' On), Ariana Grande (Best Pop Video - Problem), Lorde (Best Rock Video - Royals), Drake (Best Hip-Hop Video - Hold On, We're Going Home), Zedd (MTV Clubland Award - Stay the Night), Sia (Best Choreography - Chandelier), 5 Seconds of Summer (Best Lyric Video - Don't Stop), Eminem (Best Editing - Rap God), DJ Snake and Lil Jon (Best Direction - Turn Down for What), Arcade Fire (Best Art Direction - Reflektor), and OK Go (Best Visual Effects - The Writing's on the Wall).
