Underworld Franchise Starring Kate Beckinsale is Getting a Reboot

It seems everything is getting rebooted these days, whether it's still pretty recent or not; they're getting rebooted seriously. From Amazing Spiderman, X-Men: First Class, Batman Begins, Star Trek, Rise of the Planet of the Apes; now comes Underworld - the Kate Beckinsale starrer franchise about the raging war of vampires and lycans.

The Hollywood Reporter initially reported that Lakeshore Entertainment - the studio of the original Underwold franchise recently confirmed about the official reboot, and that they just hired Cory Goodman to pen the screenplay. Cory Goodman is known for his works such as, "The Priest" starring Paul Bettany and the upcoming "The Last Witch Hunter" with Vin Diesel attached to the project under Summit Entertainment.

The first film "Underworld" was released back in 2003 that starred Kate Beckinsale as Selene, a vampire set out to avenge her family against the Lycans. It was directed, co-produced and co-written by Len Wiseman, who is also Kate Beckinsale's husband. Three more films followed: "Underworld: Evolution" (2006), the prequel "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" (2009), and the most recent "Underworld: Awakening" (2012). All three films starred Kate Beckinsale, except for "Rise of the Lycans."

There is no word yet if Kate Beckinsale will reprise her role; along with Michael Sheen, Scott Speedman, Rhona Mitra and Bill Nighy.

The franchise has a total gross of more than $458 million worldwide, with the fourth film as the biggest hit.
