Marvel is earning a lot these days. After Captain America: The Winter Soldier performed well with its earning totaling to more than $800 millions, Marvel scored big again with Guardians of the Galaxy. The group of super heroes was pretty much unknown to many until they set a huge marketing campaign that got a lot of comic fans giddy and excited about the movie. And true enough, the movie generated a lot buzz that even before the Guardians of Galaxy was shown in theaters, a sequel was already announced, and the release date set. That, my friends, is how you do marketing the right way.
Anyhow, the Guardians of the Galaxy did pretty well in the box office, earning $94 million in its opening weekend in the US alone. Overseas, it earned $66.4 million in the opening weekend. These figures gave the movie the best opening for August in the history and the third best opening for 2014. The first and second spots went to Transformers: Age of Extinction and Captain America: The Winter Soldier respectively.
As for the sequel, James Gunn will be back to direct and co-write the movie with Nicole Perlman. After the earning in the box office was announced, the director himself thanked the cast and crew for a job well done. He also shared his excitement for the sequel as he is very excited to share to the fans of the movie and heartaches and successes of the gang.
