Magic Mike XXL Release date, Trailer, News, and Updates: Magic Mike 2 Started Shooting this past weekend
Magic Mike XXL is the sequel to 2012's Magic Mike which is about the world of male strippers which is also based off of the experiences of actor Channing Tatum.
Director of the first film Steven Soderbergh tweeted a picture (seen above) of the clap board on Sunday with the caption: "It's ON!" Soderbergh however will not be back as director but will take care of cinematography as well as editing. "I want to be there, but I don't want to be the director," Soderbergh told GQ about his involvement with the upcoming sequel. "I want to be a part of it. I want to be in the band, but I just don't want to be the front man this time." Soderbergh's first assistant director from his previous projects, Gregory Jacobs, will now direct the film. It's also important to note that Soderbergh work also include the Ocean's Trilogy and the highly acclaimed TV movie Behind the Candelabra which told the story of the last ten years of the life of pianist Liberace.
In 2012, Magic Mike was a commercial box office hit earning $113 million domestically with the film being made with only a budget of $7 million.
The sequel is reportedly a road-trip film that will lead to a stripper convention. "A s--- ton of ridiculous stuff that you would never see in a movie, on the face of the earth, ever again," says actor Channing Tatum in a recent interview with MTV.
Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer are returning for the sequel.
Magic Mike XXL dances its way into theaters on July 3, 2015.
