In a conference in San Francisco on Tuesday, Intel in one of their announcements unveiled a new android tablet in partnership with Dell which the two are touting to be the world's thinnest tablet. It is the Dell venue 87000 series.
The android tablet is just 6mm thick with an 8.4 inch 2560x1600 OLED display. The tablet is inbuilt with Intel realsense snapshot depth camera that has the capability to capture depth details in every photo taken. What does this mean? It means that using dell gallery software, users can after applying filters re-focus on specific parts on the image. One can confuse the camera with the one found on the HTC one (M8) but they are very different. The gallery software also includes a measure mode that lets the user to get the real world dimensions on the objects clicked on.
"Images can be modified at different layers captured by the 3D camera," said Intel's CEO, Brian Krzanich in a press briefing when he showed off the tablet. Rumors say Krzanich has used the tablet for months now and has had to charge it once every two or three days. "It's got infinite number of layers, so you can sit there and take out color and do any kind of effects," said Krzanich
The Dell Venus 8700 series tablet is powered by an Intel dual core Atom Z3500 processor called Moorefield. According to dell, a larger tablet with a 10 inch display a variant of the device is in the making while Intel confirmed that apart from the Wi-Fi variant of the tablet an SKU with the Intel XMM 7260 LTE modem inside capable of reaching 200Mbps, will also be available.
Held by the hand it is very light and easy to hold as explained during a hand on review during at Intel Developers forum trade show. The tablet has a barebones design with minimal port options. It has an on/off switch a volume button and a micro-usb 2.0 for charging. With speakers located at the bottom the tablet did not seem to have a micro-SD card slot for expandable memory.
The Dell venue 87000 series will ship by the end of this year though the pricing was not mentioned.
