Rob and Kristin Bell Hope to Help Couples with Their New Book "The Zimzum of Love"
Rob Bell who has released the controversial book "Love Wins," will be back on October 28 with his new book 'The Zimzum of Love: A New Way of Understanding Marriage' written together with his wife Kristin. The book has been held up as an alternative to Mark and Grace Driscoll's 'Real Marriage'.
Written to resource couples with ways to help them resolve their marital issues, this is the book promises to be revolutionary. This is what the press release says about the book: "Zimzum is a Hebrew term where God, in order to have a relationship with the world, contracts, creating space for the creation to exist. In marriage, zimzum is the dynamic energy field between two partners, in which each person contracts to allow the other to flourish. Mastering this field, this give and take of energy, is the secret to what makes marriage flourish."
"Rob and Kristin Bell are brutally honest about their own struggles, their ups and downs, as together they pass along what matters most for couples. In this wise book, they explore the secret of what makes a happy union-probing the mystery at the heart of the extraordinary emotional connection that binds two people. With his down-to-earth charm, a dose of whimsy, and memorable stories, Rob, writing with his wife Kristen, changes how we consider marriage, providing insight that can help all of us create satisfying and sacred unions of our own."
The Bells' egalitarian appraoch is likely to be compared to the Driscolls' popular book, which takes the view that men and women "complement" each other, but have distinctly different and prescribed roles.
However, recently Bell has faced criticism for his book 'Love Wins.' The questions he raised in that book led many to believe he now holds a universalist position, such as all humans will be saved irregardless of faith or repentance. Further, Bell has also further distanced himself from traditional evangelicalism by coming out in favour of same-sex marriages. In 2012 he left Mars Hill Bible Church, which he founded in 1999, to persue a career in Hollywood. This autumn he will be touring with Oprah Winfrey.
