Incubus working on new album, looking at a 2015 release date; Six songs in various stages of development
Good news for Incubus fans: it looks like the members have emerged from their busy lives to work on a new album.
It will be the band's first album since 2011, when they released If Not Now, When? This album spawned the hit singles Adolescents and Promises, Promises. Prior to this was Monuments and Melodies, the Incubus album released in 2009.
Band guitarist Mike Einziger talks about the new Incubus album:
"I feel like it's the first album we've made since 2006. We start touring Australia in February and plan to just be on the road next year. I would imagine we'll have something come out in February before the first tour starts early next year. Right now, we have about six songs in various stages of completion; a lot of them are just the music. Brandon's been out of town, so we've been sending him music and he's been writing lyrics while traveling. Our only concrete plan right now is to work until the end of the year."
Lead singer Brandon Boyd shares in an interview, "It's amazing so far - we set up a studio and we've got everything sounding good. We just hit record and record all the ideas, and there's tons of music coming out, it's very wild some of it. It's like there was stuff there waiting in the pipeline or something. Actually we were commenting just now on how our brains feel delightfully overloaded with ideas. So we're just kind of sifting and jamming and cheerleading and doing all this stuff, it's a really fun part of the process, the writing."
As for new album's song list, Boyd says, "We have so much material, we're just going to start carving away at it and recording bits. Our hope is to have some material available to steal before we actually come to Australia, so when we perform new songs down there and trying them out, they won't be totally unfamiliar to people. There's a lot of work to do. But it's what we do."
The boys have been busy with their personal projects. Boyd has released a solo album while Einziger collaborated with other artists and has been involved with scoring movies such as The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
