The Late Jesse Winchester's Final Album Will be Released on Sept. 16
September 16, 2014 will see the release of the late singer/songwriter Jesse Winchester's final studio album. "A Reasonable Amount of Trouble" was written when he was in remission from his first instance of cancer in 2011. And it was produced by Mac McAnally, who has also worked with major artists like Jimmy Buffet, Sawyer Brown and Kenny Chesney. Of the twelve new tracks, nine are original compositions, with many featuring instrumental contributions from McAnally on guitar, as well special guests Jerry Douglas on lap steel and Jim Horn on saxophone.
The title of this CD was taken from one of Jesse Winchester's favorite books and movies. "The Maltese Falcon" by Dashiell Hammett. In the movie, Humphrey Bogart famously states, "I don't mind a reasonable amount of trouble," a line that amused Jesse and which he frequently quoted. The cover of the CD depicts a painting entitled "Crying Woman" a water color painted by Jesse Winchester in 1969 as a gift to his mother after he had moved to Canada from Memphis. The song "Ghosts" is also for his mother, a companion piece the the art.
Appleseed Records President Jim Musselman posted, "Jesse was a beautiful human being and one of the most wonderful artists that I have had the honor to work with. We had just finished recording a new CD with him called A Reasonable Amount of Trouble and he was very excited about the songs on the album. Jesse recorded a new song about life called 'All That We Have Is Now' about living life fully, and also a beautiful song about facing death titled 'Just So Much' that I cannot listen to without getting tears in my eyes. He showed such courage facing death and was strong throughout. We all can learn a lot from him in many ways . . . I am heartbroken over the loss of this remarkable musician."
Winchester had a long, storied career, releasing 10 solo albums since 1970. Winchester has also written songs for Emmylou Harris, Don Williams, Reba McEntire, Dan Seals, George Strait, Evangeline, Jimmy Buffett, Wynonna Judd among many others. He passed away on April 11th, 2014, after a second battle with cancer. Winchester was and remains highly esteemed in the musical community, counting legends like Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Elvis Costello and Jerry Douglas as friends and admirers.
